A Day at Wakonda
7:30 AM - Wake up
(7:45 AM - Hoppers) 8:00 AM - Breakfast & Flag Raising
9:00 AM - (If applicable, campers received morning meds)
Campers start the day with a morning devotion highlighting the daily scripture and curriculum lesson. This may include an activity or song, followed by time for journaling & prayer.
9:45 AM-10:30 - Activity Periods 1
Campers are put into family groups for two sessions of activities related to the theme of their camp event. Activities may include arts & crafts, waterfront, field games, nature activities, etc. If activities are expected to go longer, the flexibility is there to use both periods.
10:30-11:15 - Activity Period 2
11:15 AM - Midday Scripture Study
This is a morning reminder to focus ourselves on Christ and to explore the day’s scripture reading/lesson through study.
(Hoppers at 11:45) 12:00 PM - Lunch and Singing
1:00 PM - Rest Hour: This is a time for campers and counselors to rest quietly during the day.
2:00 PM - Cabin Cleanup
Campers work together to clean their cabin. This is a "contest" between cabins as the cabins are judged. The winning cabin receives a small token of appreciation for keeping their cabin tidy.
2:15 PM - Free Choice
Counselors are split up into different activity areas (usually waterfront, Arts & Crafts, and Field/Court Games) where the campers can pick where they want to go.
3:45 PM - Activity Period 3
Afternoon activity periods are about play focused on the daily scripture theme.
4:30 PM - Activity Period 4
(Hoppers at 5:15) 5:30 PM - Dinner
6:30 PM - Evening Program
This is a group or camp wide activity/game, often focused around the theme of the camp event.
8:00 PM - Evening Snack/Vespers
Each night we have a snack followed by vespers. Evening Vespers is our way of bringing the daily theme back into a meditation as the day ends. We feel our morning program/evening vespers model is a good way to "bookend" the day with our theme.
Age Appropriate Cabin Devotion and Bedtime
The day ends with devotions in the cabins. The counselors guide conversation in the cabins with the campers. This time has been known to be very powerful with some meaningful conversation and the development of lifelong friendships.
