What does "Wakonda" mean?
Camp Wakonda’s name doesn’t come from the recent Marvel films; it comes from the Lakota-Sioux people on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation with whom we have a long history in mission.
Wakonda means “Great Spirit,” and as a camp, our community offers children, youth, and adults experiences of God’s Great Spirit in the setting of God’s amazing creation.
We play games, we tell stories, and we grow as a community of faith one week at a time.
