Allergies and Diets...
If a camper has a food allergy or a special diet, we are happy to cater to these needs. In 2014, we had a peanut allergy on staff, and we did not have peanuts in the kitchen or dining hall. We will do the same for our campers and guests! Our crew is trained how to cater to these needs in the kitchen and at the table. We have a full salad bar at lunch and dinner, and we have a cereal and fruit bar at every breakfast. At most meals, we have a separate vegetarian option. We feel this gives all of our campers options if they do not like one of our main courses.
Our kitchen is inspected at least twice a year. We work with the Carroll County Health Department to work together on our compliance. We do not do quick fixes to "get by for the year." Paula, our Food Service Coordinator, is ServSafe certified as a Food Service Manager. All of our kitchen crew takes some level of ServSafe training, and all are continuously trained in the latest rules of serving safe food in our dining hall.
Wholesome & Healthy Meals...
"Camp Food" often has a stigma attached to it as highly processed and often unhealthy. At Camp Wakonda, we feel that we can serve tasty comfort food without giving up healthiness.
